Points North Baptist Mission
It is our desire that Points North Baptist Mission be a blessing and a help to local churches by assisting them in sending forth their missionaries to Arctic and Sub-arctic regions of the world. We are not interested in doing the local church’s work for it nor do we desire to usurp its authority. We want to enhance its ministry, not detract from it. We believe that the great commission was given to the church, therefore the church ought to be the sending agent. While there must be certain guidelines by which to operate, we do not want to dictate to the local church or to its missionary.
Anyone desiring to serve with PNBM as a missionary should contact the mission office to ask for a pre-application. This will start the process that will enable our director to properly consider the qualifications of the applicant. Approval will be granted only to the applicant who is a member of an independent Baptist church. This church must not only agree to function as the sending church, but must do so enthusiastically. The missionary must be commissioned by the local church, endorsed by the local church and will be accountable to it. PNBM claims no authority to discipline a missionary, but will advise the local church, should, in our opinion, the need for discipline arise.

The North is a specialized field. It takes some special knowledge to live there and have a successful ministry there. While any church is certainly free to send its missionaries anywhere in the world that it desires, we believe that a missionary will benefit greatly from working with the experienced people of PNBM. It would seem wise to seek counsel from someone who has lived there for some length of time and conducted a ministry there. Much time and expense will be saved by working with PNBM instead of going to such a difficult field and learning things the hard way. Both the missionary and the sending church can benefit from this. Consider that we are stewards of the resources that God has lent to us. Let us make wise use of them.
Our director and personnel stand ready to offer advice and assistance in the following areas: visiting an arctic field prior to deputation; preparation of a slide presentation; relationships between missionary and pastors; writing prayer letters; maintaining financial support over the years; building construction that will endure in the arctic; how to evangelize; conducting a ministry in an arctic village; how to stay in the arctic long enough to see a ministry come to self support; and many more helpful ideas to enhance a ministry. Also we purpose to assist our missionaries, as God provides and directs, with building programs, aviation needs, printing and distribution of literature, raising support and capital, and encouragement.
When a missionary is approved for service with PNBM, he will be expected to enter his deputation ministry full time as soon as possible. The missionary will be responsible for raising the funds necessary to conduct this initial phase of his ministry as well as subsequent phases. PNBM assumes no obligation concerning the actual raising of funds for the missionary or his ministry. PNBM may supply the missionary with a list of churches that can be contacted for meetings, but the obligation ends there. PNBM will clear funds through Calvary Baptist Church, New Philadelphia, Ohio.
